2020 — The Perfect Year To Start Something New!

Of course God used an incredible wave of events to start something new. Of course God used difficult, challenging, hard-to-fathom circumstances to create something new.

Of course, God used an incredible wave of events to start something new. Of course, God used difficult, challenging, hard-to-fathom circumstances to create something new. Of course, because that’s the way God has worked through leaders since the beginning of time — like He did with Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Ruth, David, Mary and Joseph. And, most importantly, it’s how He brought His Son into the world.

Of course, God would give us a vision to start a new ministry for Memphis’ leaders in the year 2020. Of course God would show us how being faithful to His Word could transform lives and our city. “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Of course God started The Center to serve Memphis through a community of leaders who are centered on God’s Word.

Of course, God is the Holy One and ultimate encourager who defines reality and offers hope.

Of course, God answered our prayers and provided for our needs. Of course, He blessed us with more success and impact than we could have imagined.

And here is, of course, how God blessed us this year:

  • We kicked off 12 weeks of small groups where 80+ people from diverse backgrounds, job types, ethnicities, and 15 different churches gathered (in person and via Zoom) to learn. And our in-person meetings remained Covid free!
  • We launched our website in September and it has now been viewed over 3,000 times. Praise God for Blake Lam and his fabulous work!
  • We’ve hosted incredible guest speakers — all of which are humble servants and leaders who have been used by God in powerful ways. Praise God for Seng Zhou, Michael Rhodes, and Rob Carter!
  • Every meeting has generated meaningful discussions and connections. Praise God for opening the eyes of our hearts!
  • The Lord has resourced us with prayer and content partnerships including Made to Flourish, Redeemer City to City, Praxis, Theology Of Work Project, Faith Driven Entrepreneur, and the Denver Institute. Praise God for like-minded ministries that have paved the way!
  • We’ve moved into our new office space at 5050 Poplar Avenue. Praise God for a location to meet with leaders in the center of Memphis!
  • In the midst of trying times, we’ve been given generous financial support. To date, we’ve received almost half the funds needed, with commitments for more. Praise God for every gift!
  • And, most importantly, we’ve received the blessing of being lifted up by your prayers and encouragement. Praise God for good friends and Memphis leaders like you!

We are grateful for all who attended sessions, visited our site, gave feedback, and told others about The Center. We are equally thankful for those who prayed and gave financially to support our mission. Thank you for your partnership in the gospel. We can’t wait to see what God does with us in 2021…and for eternity!
