A Good Eye for Great Work

A Good Eye for Great Work

What you see determines where you go. Your view of life, your focus, visions, and dreams all determine where you are headed. A pure aim is life-giving and leads to the greatest rewards. A clear view is full of abundance and opportunities because it sees God and His ways as the starting point.

What you see determines where you go.

Your view of life, your focus, visions, and dreams all determine where you are headed.

A divided aim leads to indecision and anxiety. If you aim at more than one thing you actually hit nothing.

A pure aim is life-giving and leads to the greatest rewards.

"The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness." - [.no-reftag]Matthew 6:22-23[.no-reftag]

A Distorted View

A distorted view is a limited view that starts from a self-centered perspective. Like a small child you can only see what you think you need right now. You are not able to set your mind on a long term view. You have only yourself at the center of your vision and desires.

If you view life from a self-centered approach — my day, my talents, my stuff, my job, my needs, my limited time, my control, my goal to gain an advantage today — you will not be able to do the great work you were made to do.

A Clear View

A clear view is full of abundance and opportunities because it sees God and His ways as the starting point. You can see further than you can dream or imagine as you follow Jesus who made you and loves you.

Followers of Jesus have an advantage in doing great work. They know life is a gift, each moment is an opportunity, time lasts forever, and resources are abundant. They learn that using gifts for others leads to more gifts, and great work leads to a better life for all.

We all have cloudy eyes sometimes. Jesus tells us exactly how to have healthy eyes that lead to a clear view for life and work.

A Good Eye Sees Truth

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches about how to have right relationships with God and others, including life-giving wisdom on how to view money and possessions.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” - [.no-reftag]Matthew 6:19-24[.no-reftag]

See What Lasts

Jesus is saying to take the long view of life. Do not be consumed by this life and all its temporary possessions.

There is no positive correlation between having many things and being very happy.” - John Piper

You’re invited to live the kingdom life working with Jesus now, and forever. Value greater lasting rewards!

  • Don’t focus on collecting more —  avoid storing up, or the protection of temporary assets like money, possessions, or even power on earth.
  • Store up what lasts — honoring God by doing His will - putting the good of others above earning dollars, gaining assets, or completing projects.
  • Value God and where He is taking you above all things. What you value in your heart is really who you are. What you value impacts all of your actions and outcomes.

Serve What Lasts

Jesus is saying it is impossible to serve Him and money. No one can aim at two places at once. You have to fix your eyes on one target.

  • Receive the benefits of your abundant inheritance now. You don’t have to wait. Jesus is offering you life with Him now and forever — which produces hope and purpose in this life and in calculable rewards in the life to come.

“ Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you." - [.no-reftag]1 Peter 1:3-4[.no-reftag]

  • Be generous – Join Jesus now in giving what you cannot keep to build a kingdom that lasts forever. You can literally join Jesus in building the kingdom of God when you aim all of your gifts and means at His work. Work that has its aim on glorifying God and blessing others, blesses others and leads people to Jesus. Deploying all of your assets to help others know the saving love of Jesus creates rewards for you in heaven that are incalculable.
