Have you ever been completely convinced that you should be under someone’s leadership? So much so, that you would reprioritize all of your other life plans, even where you decide to live, around learning from that leader? That is exactly what I did in the summer of 2001.

One thing we see for sure is that making and keeping promises is how things get done. We cannot avoid making promises, but we can learn how to get better at making and keeping them.

Leadership is built on trust, and trust requires communication that motivates action through promises — promises that are both made and kept.

We can learn a lot from how Jesus asked questions. The four Gospels record over 300 questions that Jesus asked. Unlike us, Jesus knew the answer to the questions He asked — yet, He still asked them in a curious way that caused those He loved and led to pause and think.

As followers of Jesus, how do we go about changing our hypocritical behavior and image? Also, given all our other responsibilities in life, to what length should we go to do this?

The best way for a leader to put action behind words is through service and sacrifice. Nothing is more endearing or inspires more loyalty than a leader who serves with great sacrifice — modeling the actions necessary to achieve the mission for their teammates, countrymen, employees, customers, followers, family and friends.
